Hamburg – Our Home Port
COLUMBIA has its established business roots in Hamburg, where core shipping functions have been established already back in 1985.
The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg has a truly rich maritime heritage. Hamburg is one of the 16 states of the German Federation and with its 1.7 million inhabitants it is the second largest city in Germany. In this sense, it is a city as well as a state. For the 3.5 million people living in the metropolitan region, Hamburg is a business, shopping and cultural metropolis. As a trade centre, Hamburg has always been outward-looking, and this has shaped the mentality of its inhabitants. Today Hamburg with its harbor has gained an international reputation as an established and vivid shipping centre, where all major businesses connected with the shipping industry have their representations.
Since end of 2009 COLUMBIA’s business activities are centralized in the
. The modern building with its characteristic stainless steel façade in copper color is located on the river banks of the Elbe and forms an architectural milestone in the area. From our offices we oversee the river and the harbor and are thus very close to the ships, which determine our everyday professional commitment.
